The conference sessions dedicated to subjects including tsunamis, Hurricane Katrina, ocean resource management, security and safety once again reinforced OI"s position as the seminal — and largest — event for the ocean community.

Conference Chairman Dr Richard Spinrad, Assistant Administrator of the NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) for Research, made the above comment, and continued: «The theme of the conference was "Technology In Service To Society" and it superbly demonstrated the capabilities of the ocean community on critical societal needs, such as environmental stewardship and the mitigation of natural hazards. We had papers on topics including tsunamis, hurricanes, marine mammal and resource issues, and heard from a broad range of companies and organisations, including the US and UK Navies.»
