Выставка Moscow Green Week 2013

Выставка Moscow Green Week

6th International exhibition
Дата проведения:
14–19 мая 2013

Wander through the stands of flowers and plants. Admire the showpiece gardens and horticultural displays. No, you’re not at the Chelsea Flower Show, you’re in Moscow, at the city’s fourth successive Moscow Green Week being held at the All-Russian Exhibition Centre on Prospect Mira. This is Russia’s answer to the British gardening institution, and it is growing in size and scope, setting its own unique stamp upon the horticultural world.

The exhibition is primarily a commercial and industrial affair. Around one hundred companies will be present at the exhibition and 20,000 visitors are expected, both general public and those directly involved in the industry. The exhibition provides a forum where different sectors, ranging from nursery businesses to landscape gardeners, can inspect each others’ progress and products. People can see what new seedlings, tools and machinery and other technologies are available, and from the showpiece gardens they can form an idea of what can be done with them.

A range of Russian companies are taking part, providing a wealth of expertise and perspective. These include seed suppliers SeDek and Ailitia, the Izmailovsky State Farm of Ornamental Gardening, and greenhouse manufacturers Yuzhny Sovkhoz-Kombinat State Unitary Enterprise. The only two foreign companies to be represented are Rosen Welt Tantau and Wolfschmidt Samen and Jungpflanzen GbR, both German sellers of young plants.

This makes the exhibition an almost wholly Russian affair. Moscow Green Week runs from this week to the next, and is one of a number of exhibitions which the Floriculture and Greenery JSC stage. Although primarily industrial events, Moscow’s populace seems very interested in them as well, since 80 percent of the visitors at last year’s Moscow Green Week were non-business people.

For a glimpse of what Moscow’s parks may become, the All-Russian Exhibition Centre is worth a visit. Elena Zarubina, one of the managers for the exhibition, says: «We’re showing the new varieties of flowers and horticultural equipment… Everything from the exhibition goes to the parks, gardens and yards of Moscow.» So Moscow Green Week offers not just a platform for businesses for what they’ve developed and what’s next, but also a glimpse for Muscovites into what the future holds for their city.

There will be an Eurovision song contest at the same time. Semi-final - 12, 14 of May. Final - 16 of May.
